Description: Herb to ca 1 m tall; rhizomes branched; leaf sheath hairy below; ligule ca 1 cm long, bilobed. Leaves distichous, elliptic to oblong, 25–30 cm long; silky hairs on midrib and margin below; young leaves reddish below; petioles ca 5 mm long. Inflorescences with peduncle 5–15 cm long, arising from rhizomes, conical ovate; bracts reddish orange, lanceolate to ca 3.2 cm long; bracteoles lanceolate, to ca 2.7 cm long, sparsely hairs to apex. Calyx split one side, to ca 1.8 cm long, apex 3-toothed. Corolla pinkish to reddish orange, to ca 7.5 cm long, tube slender; dorsal lobe lanceolate to 3.3 cm long; lateral lobes oblong, to 2 cm long; labellum to ca 7 cm long, 3-lobed; middle lobe elliptic to 2 cm long, apex cleft; side lobes broadly elliptic, ca 8 mm long.

 

 

Distribution: Endemic to northern Thailand, recorded from Chiang Mai and Nan, shaded areas in montane forest, 1,400–1,700 m.
